Physician and Nurse Practitioner opportunities

Bring your practice to the Gulf Shore Patient Medical Home

Explore a specific Patient Medical Home, a team you can help shape, and a North Rustico practice connected to PEI’s provincial employment, licensing, and recruitment pathways.

Two professions, one primary care team

Start with the work you want to do.

Gulf Shore welcomes Family Physicians and Nurse Practitioners at different career stages. The first conversation is about scope, team fit, timing, and what would make practice sustainable for you—not collecting a full application. If there is a fit, GSCHC will work with you and Health PEI through the formal recruitment steps that follow.

Provincial programs to explore

Know what to ask about before you make a decision.

These are current provincial program highlights, not a promise of eligibility or an offer of employment. Amounts, criteria, designated positions, and return-in-service terms can change. Health PEI must confirm what applies to a specific Gulf Shore opportunity.

Family Physicians

A flexible provincial framework, shaped for Gulf Shore.

PEI identifies salary, fee-for-service, and contract-for-service models, alongside a five-year Physician Services Agreement that emphasizes longitudinal family medicine, team collaboration, and reduced administrative burden.

Return-in-service grants may reach $115,000, depending on position, location, and candidate eligibility.

Eligible moving expenses may be reimbursed up to $10,000 with the applicable return-in-service agreement.

In-person or virtual site visits and locum support may provide a lower-commitment way to explore practice on PEI.

Nurse Practitioners

Full-scope primary care with a rural team.

PEI recruits NPs across primary and acute care and highlights professional growth, leadership, and integrated care. At Gulf Shore, the focus is longitudinal primary care within the Patient Medical Home team.

The current graduate program describes an $8,000 incentive with a 3,900-hour return-in-service commitment.

The current experienced-NP program describes an $18,000 incentive with a 1,950-hour return-in-service commitment.

An additional $5,000 rural incentive may apply to eligible positions outside Charlottetown; relocation assistance may also be available.

Program information reviewed September 27, 2026. Always verify current terms with the linked program owner before relying on an amount or eligibility statement.

Your decision

Begin with a conversation. Move forward with support.

A lengthy form should not stand between you and an initial conversation. Formal Health PEI forms and approvals will be necessary if you proceed; GSCHC can help you navigate them while you evaluate the practice, offer, pathway, and community.

01

The work

Explore panel-based longitudinal care, schedule and FTE options, team composition, clinical supports, and how your scope would fit the Gulf Shore model.

02

The offer

Review the applicable compensation pathway, benefits, incentives, return-in-service terms, relocation support, and any overhead responsibilities in writing.

03

The pathway

Work with GSCHC and Health PEI through the required recruitment forms and documentation, while confirming licensing, credentialing, immigration, or work authorization with the responsible organizations.

04

The place

Meet the team, see the practice and community, and discuss housing, childcare, partner employment, schools, and the needs of your household.

Licensing and formal pathways

Talk early. Apply formally with local support.

GSCHC works in conjunction with Health PEI and can help you understand and complete the formal recruitment steps when you are ready. Health PEI confirms employment, compensation, incentives, and return-in-service terms; the professional regulators independently decide licensure.

Physician registration

All physicians practising in PEI must be registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI. Applications are submitted through physiciansapply.ca; the College determines eligibility.

CPSPEI registration

Nurse Practitioner registration

NPs must be registered with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing and Midwifery. Requirements vary by applicant pathway and must be confirmed with the College.

PEICNM requirements

International pathways

Internationally trained providers are welcome to begin a conversation. Licensing, credential assessment, immigration, and work authorization remain decisions of the relevant regulator and public authorities.
