About GSCHC
A community voice for stronger local health care.
The Gulf Shore Community Health Corporation is a volunteer-led nonprofit rooted in 17 communities around North Rustico. It works with community partners and Health PEI to strengthen access, support recruitment, and help local health services respond to local needs.
Built by the communities it serves.
In February 2001, residents from 17 communities came together because too many local families lacked reliable access to primary care. Their goal was both practical and ambitious: improve access to medical treatment and establish a community health resource centre based on collaborative care.

The new community corporation outfitted and opened a weekly evening clinic while continuing to advocate for a permanent local centre.
2003
A permanent foundation
The Central Queens Gulf Shore Community Health Centre opened. GSCHC was incorporated as a nonprofit organization and granted charitable status that year.
Today
Recruitment and partnership
GSCHC is helping recruit Family Physicians and Nurse Practitioners, working in conjunction with Health PEI and offering candidates a direct connection to the community.
One shared commitment to better access.
GSCHC grew from citizens representing communities across the Gulf Shore area. That regional perspective remains central to its work.

Over its history, the corporation has supported equipment and supplies, health education, CPR training, emergency preparedness, and needs assessment.

Its work has included programs for healthy living, families, seniors, and community resilience—not only clinical care.

For prospective physicians and Nurse Practitioners, GSCHC offers people who know the practice, the communities, and the realities of making a move to the Gulf Shore area.

The current facility has space for up to four providers. GSCHC’s role is to introduce prospective providers to the opportunity and the community, work alongside Health PEI, and help candidates navigate the formal steps if they choose to proceed.
